Goodwill Is Sustainable
Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette receives and sorts through thousands of pounds of gently used clothes and other household items every day. Our recycling system is so effective that less than 13% of donated items end up as waste, helping keep millions of pounds of goods from polluting the Earth each year.
Reduce - Reuse - Recycle
Goodwill is doing its part to help keep the environment clean for future generations. Our recycling efforts begin by selling your gently used goods at one of our stores. If an item does not sell within 3-5 weeks, it is then processed through the Goodwill retail-recycling program, which starts with one of our outlet locations.
Goodwill Outlet Locations
At each of our outlet locations in Portland, Hillsboro, Salem and Vancouver, we sell a majority of the items that were not purchased at one of our stores.
Each day, approximately 50,000 pounds of merchandise are sold, recycled or salvaged at these outlets. Large bundles of clothing, stuffed animals and shoes are compacted daily and sent outside Goodwill for recycling at regional sorting locations. We aggressively recycle those items that do not sell to ensure that as much as possible is kept out of landfills. Unsold metals and plastics are also sorted, bundled, and sent to recyclers to protect the environment while we fulfill our mission.
E-Cycle Experts
Bring your broken computers, laptops, monitors, or televisions to Goodwill and we will ensure they are properly recycled for free. There is a limit of seven items per visit. Please visit www.oregonecycles.org or www.ecyclewashington.org for more information. You are also welcome to call Goodwill at (503) 238-6100.
