Goodwill’s Newest Beaverton Store Opens In Time for Back to School
July 7, 2009
The shelves are soon to be fully stocked, the bins overflowing with merchandise, and the colorful fashions on the silver racks swiveled and thumbed through by treasure hunters. Starting July 23rd at 7 A.M., hundreds of customers are expected to cruise through the more than 15,500 square feet of goodies when Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette (GICW) opens its newest store.
The facility, located at 12975 SW Westgate Drive, across from Beaverton Nissan on Cedar Hills Blvd., will be Goodwill’s newest store since the charity opened its doors more than 80 years ago. The Beaverton-area store replaces the Griffith Park location. Of the 40 people employed - 2/3rds have barrier to employment.
This new retail resource is more than 25,000-square-feet in total and will have the same high standards found in GICW’s other 40 stores. It is the second largest location in the nonprofit’s territory; the largest store is located in SE Portland off of Grand Ave.
More than ninety-cents of every retail dollar provide vocational opportunities – including jobs, vocational training and job-placement services – to people with barriers to employment. The largest retail operation of all Goodwills in North America, GICW served more than 23,000 individuals in 2008.
