Bernice Jepson
Bernice visits correctional facilities to teach inmates how to be "job ready" when they are released.
From the age of 6 to18, Bernice Jepson was a victim of verbal, physical and sexual abuse. Her sister and brother were also abused at the hand of their alcoholic father. The children’s mother could not protect them; she, too, was beaten daily. Bernice tells us family warmth was non-existent, as was any communication other than the voice of her abusive father. In an attempt to avoid the abuse, Bernice and her siblings tried to be invisible.

Janie Marsh
2009 Kenneth Shaw Graduate of the Year
“I am happy, content and excited about life.”
Janie abused drugs, was arrested multiple times, misused government subsidies, lost custody of her children and finally ended up in jail. While incarcerated, Goodwill helped her restart her life. She completed our free, three-week job preparation course and eventually graduated from our free Job Connection program. She later found employment at Oregon Green Landscape in McMinnville.

Jim Barnette
“Things are really good for me. I have a job and earn money…It’s good.”
Jim’s disabilities are a direct result from a brain hemorrhage he suffered at only six weeks of age. Though he is legally blind, a mild quadriplegic and cognitively delayed, Barnettte has still managed to overcome many of life’s obstacles. When he came to Goodwill, he brought his contagious smile and spirit with him. He is a perfect example of personal strength and perseverance. At Goodwill, we are honored to know him.
