Michael M. Miller, President
& CEO
Michael Miller
joined Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette (GICW) as President in
January 1986. Prior to his
employment at GICW, he served as President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of
the Miami Valley (Dayton, Ohio) for four years (1981 – 1985). Michael began his Goodwill career in
1976 as a Vocational Development Specialist for Goodwill Industries of
Southeastern Wisconsin (Milwaukee).
He is an active volunteer with many community organizations, is a member
of the Goodwill Industries International (GII) leadership development
committee, and co-chairs GII’s mentoring program. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of
Wisconsin. He is also a graduate
of the GII executive development program.
Sylvia Schmidt, Assistant to the
President & CEO
Sylvia Schmidt
joined Goodwill Industries as Assistant to the President in September
1988. She continues to serve in
this capacity, as well as Assistant to the Board of Directors. Previous work history includes:
Executive Assistant to the President, Provost and Board of Directors at Hawaii
Loa College in Kaneohe, Hawaii; Assistant to the Executive Director and Board
of Directors of C-TRAN, the public transit agency in Clark County, Washington;
and Assistant to the Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Intexma Pty. Ltd.,
a textile consulting business in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Robert Barsocchini, Director of
Human Resources & Loss Control, Corporate Counsel
Robert
Barsocchini has been with Goodwill Industries since 2000. He serves as General Counsel and
Director of Human Resources and Loss Control. Prior to joining Goodwill, he was in private practice with
an emphasis on litigation. Robert
is a member of the Oregon and California Bar Associations. He received his B.A. degree from the
University of California, and J.D. from Lewis and Clark law school.
Peter Collins, Director of
Operations
Peter Collins
joined Goodwill during the summer of 1989, bringing 25 years of retail
experience, including multi-store management, logistics, loss prevention,
property development and facility management. He has held numerous executive management positions in the
retail industry, including Area Manager for Plaid Pantry, and General Manager
for F. W. Woolworth. Peter’s
current responsibilities as Director of Operations include general management
of Goodwill’s retail program, including transportation, donated goods, and
facilities management.
Cheri Folk, Director of
Vocational Services
Cheri Folk’s
employment with Goodwill began in 1984.
She served in a variety of positions in the Vocational Services
Department, including Job Coach, Case Manager, Job Procurement Coordinator, Job
Placement, Program Manager, and her current position as Director of Vocational
Services. Cheri earned a B.A.
degree from Eastern Washington University. She was awarded a Goodwill scholarship and obtained an MBA
from the University of Phoenix. As
Goodwill’s Director of Vocational Services, Cheri oversees Long-Term
Services, the Job Connection and
Employee Career Enhancement Programs.
Michelle Glaser Jackson,
Director of Marketing Services
Michelle Glaser
Jackson is Goodwill’s Director of Marketing Services. A lifelong Oregonian, Michelle has served in senior
marketing and operations positions at Nike, Intel, and worked as a management and
marketing consultant for major American companies, including Coopers and
Lybrand, Disney, Seagate, and Hollywood Video. Michelle has an undergraduate degree in International
Affairs from Lewis and Clark College, and earned a Masters in Social Economics
from the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Economics. She is a member of the Point of
Purchase Industry Association, the Consumer Electronics Association and an
active participant in the Portland civic community.
Richard Knox, Director of Finance
Richard Knox
joined Goodwill as Director of Finance in 1997. Prior to joining Goodwill, he served as a regional
controller for Coremark, a large distributor to convenience/grocery stores;
controller of Northwest Bookbinding, a Portland trade binder; and, controller
for the Portland Pepsi Bottling Company.
Richard has a B.S. degree in Business from Oregon State University, and
an MBA degree from the University of Oregon.
Shue's Story
Several years before he retired as a physics researcher, Shue-Sher learned about the benefits of meditation. When he came to Goodwill he had yet to polish his English skills. We helped him do that through our English as a Second Language program.
